True to life photography that...breathes
A little backstory about me: It's the usual story of a girl who at 5 years old picked up a pink film camera and carried it EVERYWHERE. I took pictures of my mom's horse, the chickens, the dogs, unsuspecting family members and wildlife. As I grew older, I graduated to a point and shoot digital Canon camera and started documenting my adventures with our horses, even having some of their portraits featured in calendars, magazines and at county fair photo competitions.
Horses were part of my life for 20 years. From the moment my mom put my up on a horse at the age of 3 or 4, I knew that is where I wanted to be. Growing up, I saved up my money and bought my heart horse, Chester, when I turned 11.
It was the best investment. Horses taught me resilience, patience and creativity. Those skills carried over into my professional life in the medical field, and now here...in photography.
Let's Talk about....US
In 2016, I met my husband Scott. We:
-Met in April
-Got engaged July 3rd
-Got married September 17th
-------yeah, that was a wild year-----------
We made our home on the banks of the Otter River in southern Houghton County and settled into normal married life. We picked up a little Siberian Husky named Mara, and we were a happy little family.
Fun facts about our wedding:
100% DIY
Church wedding
Planned in 2 months!!! (may have had a meltdown or two)
and drum roll......we DID NOT HAVE a PHOTOGRAPHER (more on that later, keep reading)
Why all this matters

I can't think of a better way to connect with our past and present with non other than photos (and video). Being able to look back on those moments is valuable beyond what I can express here.
If you have made it this far...the story doesn't stop with us getting married. In 2020, the world as we all knew it came to a standstill. I hadn't picked up a camera consistently until that point, when I soon realized Chester (my childhood horse), was aging fast. I bought a Canon Rebel T7 off of Amazon and started shooting and filming.
In 2021, I second shot my first wedding and the rest was history. I loved connecting with my couples and their friends and family and soon realized that THIS is what I wanted to do. Meaningful work that fills my life.

Since 2020, I have photographed dozens of weddings and walked alongside couples: from the moment they first reach out, to their booking calls, to the planning process all the way to the wedding day and beyond. To say my heart is full when I look at my calendar with amazing couples is an understatement. My clients mean the absolute world to me: when they are sad, I feel that sadness too, and when they are rejoicing and celebrating-you bet we are too! My goal is to not just be your photographer; I want to be your best friend and cheerleader on your wedding day.

Hannah, tell us about....
your wedding!

Yep, you heard that right.
We had a 2 month engagement period and honestly, all of the photographers I would have wanted to book....simply would not have been available (bridal tip #1- ALWAYS book your favorite vendors ASAP). Also, we paid for 95% of our wedding ourselves and a lot of the $$$$ went towards reception food (yikes,).
"What did you do?"
I had a black, Canon powershoot digital camera and I:
-took my own detail shots a few days in advance
-created my own invites
-handed the camera to several friends and family members on the wedding day, handed them a basic family formal shotlist, and called it a day
-also, once we got back from our honeymoon in Minnesota, I edited all the pictures and made my own photobooks
In hindsight, honestly, this was God's way of planting seeds in my heart to eventually pursue this as a job!
(p.s. I don't recommend everyone do their own wedding photos)

Kind words from
Vanessa
"I was introduced to Hannah/Otter River Images when they photographed my friends wedding. I admired her work so much I hired her for my wedding in 2023. The photos turned out gorgeous, and me, my husband and bridal party had such a great experience with her. I would hire them all over again."
